Cultural Exchanges

Organizations like Suffolk Sister Cities International provide avenues for concerned, local residents to learn about the world, develop international partnerships, and evolve better communities. Through cultural exchanges, participants act as citizen diplomats, representing Suffolk and the United States overseas. In alternate years, Suffolk sends an Official Delegation to Oderzo, Italy, to interact and develop friendships with local dignitaries, service organizations such as Rotary International, and other community representatives.

Additionally, young adults have had the opportunity to take part in experiences involving business, medicine, and education. In the past, exchanges with Suffolk County, England, have involved government officials, educational leaders, and interested citizens, as well as many high school students. Professional, educational, and business opportunities and practices are impacted through these exchanges. Through gatherings, daytrips, and cultural activities, as well as homestays, participants gain a greater understanding and mutual respect for different customs and cultures.

Together, exchange ambassadors have helped their localities to "Connect Globally, Thrive Locally."
